Deals on TVs we've Reviewed

Toshiba Fire TV 2018 Design

Toshiba Fire TV 2018 (43")

SEE PRICE
Amazon.com

$249.99 - dropped by $50 - The Toshiba Fire TV is a decent but basic 4k TV. The picture quality is mediocre, and while the TV has a high native contrast ratio capable of producing deep dark scenes, it lacks more advanced features like local dimming to improve the picture quality further. The image degrades rapidly when viewed at an angle, which is bad for those with wide seating and although the TV supports HDR, it can't produce bright or vivid highlights. The distinguishing feature is the Fire TV platform, which is tightly integrated with the Alexa voice assistant.

Sony X720E Design

Sony X720E (49")

$438.00- dropped by $110 - The Sony X720E is a decent entry-level 4k TV with a better than average viewing angle and low input lag for gaming. It lacks the fully-featured smart platform found on other Sony TVs and instead, offers only a limited set of apps distributed through the Opera TV Store. Due to the mediocre picture quality in a dark room, it is better placed in a brighter environment where the less uniform blacks won't be an issue.

TCL S305 Design

TCL S305 (40")

SEE PRICE

$194.99 - dropped by $35 - The TCL S305 1080p Roku TV is a passable budget LED TV. It has decent picture quality, and it sports some of the best smart features available. Unfortunately, it cannot get very bright, and its handling of motion could be better. Note that the 28" and 32" models are 720. For the 4k model of TCL S Series, see our review here.

Sony X720E Design

$478.00 - dropped by $120 - The Sony X720E is a decent entry-level 4k TV with a better than average viewing angle and low input lag for gaming. It lacks the fully-featured smart platform found on other Sony TVs and instead, offers only a limited set of apps distributed through the Opera TV Store. LG UJ7700 Design

LG UJ7700 (65")

SEE PRICE

$649.99 - dropped by $450 - The LG UJ7700 is a good, versatile "4k" UHD TV. It has good viewing angles, and its performance will please both gamers and sports watchers. It isn't as good for movies in a dark room or TV shows though, since it doesn't get that bright in SDR and its contrast and uniformity could be a lot better. Its excellent smart features make it quite versatile. It uses an alternate pixel structure (RGBW) which results in less accurate display of fine details.
